KIRA THE GERMAN SHEPHERD

We had this beautiful girl come and see us. Kira doesn’t have any major issues. Her owner got in touch with us as he wants to make her the best she can be. She is a little reactive towards dogs, but on the whole, a really nice dog.

When we first got her out, she lacked engagement and would only listen when she wanted to.

We had a look at this on the whole and looked at various rewards. Kira lacked any desire to work for good or toys, which makes training really tough as you are only left with aversive methods if you can not reward, which doesn’t make training fun for anyone.

We spent the session working on ways to activate her and get her motivated for a toy. By the end of the session, she was playing tug and doing basic obedience for the reward of play.

We covered ways to increase her food drive so her owner can do this at home and get her working for her food and continue with the motivational training.

We didn’t look at the reactivity as there are foundations that need to be put into place first. These guys have signed up to our Pinnacle Package, so we can work through everything at a nice pace.

Her owner is going to work on everything covered, and this will also increase engagement so we can crack on straight away at the next session
